Vintage Chinese export jeweled and enameled tea caddy. Crafted of fine wire silver filigree with gold gilt finish. Fluted lobed shape with finely enameled flowering branch and magpie birds decoration. Set with turquoise and red angel skin precious coral cabochons. Marked SILVER. The word caddy is derived from the Malay word ‘kati’, a measure of weight equal to 1.4lbs or 630g approximately. A tea caddy is the general term given to a container which holds loose leaf tea. This is a heavy and functional old vintage pewter tea caddy with hand-drawn artworks surrounding the hexagonal body! Good for storage of tea leaves and as display item. Clean internal and good condition considering it's age. Due to its old age (about 40+ to 50 years old) some small dents and minor imperfection
