Story: child first came to me at 4 years old without pior knowledge. Attended about 3 months but because progress is slow and child refuse to revise at home, mummy decided to let her attend group class. 8 months later, she came back to me saying 1. she is showing no progress at all. 2. Phonics teacher kept complaining child is slow/ show no interest 3. Child only wants to go class to play with friends. I took her back again and worked on her foundation, although slow but can see progress again. I understood that her phonological awareness is not developed yet although she is now 5 yo. I started to introduce sight words and drill on her reading. Now she can read by sight while we continue to work on phonics and blending. She is able to identify all the sounds now. Conclusion: not all child benefits from regular phonics class especiall children who has no interest, slow in reading, not mature in phonological awareness or has dyslexia.
