Description

Painted in 2022 Acrylic on paper H30cm x W21cm Raymond is an artist based in Singapore, well known for his experiential teaching of abstract art at the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. This series's paintings constantly evolve as he explores materials, processes, and their interdependent interactions. Over the years, this series has evolved from focal points such as textures, colour changes, intricate blending techniques, exploration of brush strokes, and drying rates. Raymond's paintings are said to evoke contradictory feelings of familiarity and strangeness. The colours, although seemingly easy for the eye to apprehend as they shift in and out of grids, are marvelously used to do the heavy work of the painting. His work dwells upon thoughts about beauty, which is becoming more pronounced in contemporary painting practices. As the saying goes, "Beauty is revealed only once and then the veil falls." These veils neither conceal nor reveal but enhance the beauty. As a whole, his work gently sidles up to you, taps you on the shoulder, and says it's okay to enjoy the sensuous and the beautiful.
